Les Leeds - A tribute to a much loved member of Phoenix who sadly passed away in June 2012:-

It is with much sadness that we have to record here the loss of our dear friend Les. He joined the group in 2010 and was soon rehearsing for his debut performance in 'Beyond a Joke' as the "body in the cupboard" and swiftly moved on to a speaking part in 'Bad Day at Black Frog Creek' in June 2011, where he portrayed Tex with a mean Lee Marvin sneer. In February 2012, despite his failing health, Les also acted in 'The Monkey's Paw' and was instrumental in creating an atmospheric set for this one act play.

Les was gifted practically as shown by his enthusiastic involvement in set building where he came up with many creative and problem-solving ideas. In the last production that he was involved in, the joint production of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' with Writtle CARDS, Les painted a beautiful and inspired backdrop.

Les was always smiling, always gracious, always willing to help, enthusiastic and self-effacing. We will remember him for his gentle nature along with his stoical endurance of his advancing illness. Sadly, despite auditioning successfully for the part of Philostrate in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', he came to the realistic decision that he was not well enough to continue with this role. It was a privilege to know him during the relatively short time he was a member of the Company and we will greatly miss him.
